18CE class IIa or higher
7German DiGA
7no matching FDA record

This group brings together areas that do not fit elsewhere: home kidney tests, apps that follow up cancer patients, digital therapies for irritable bowel syndrome, urology and incontinence, and symptom checkers. In Europe, symptom checkers are medical devices, and several carry CE class IIa or IIb.

Below you find every tool in these areas that we track, grouped by what we could verify in the official registers.

In the US: FDA verified (9)

Authorised by the FDA (510(k), De Novo or PMA), newest decisions first.

In the EU: CE class IIa or higher (18)

Found in EUDAMED as class IIa or higher. We show whether a notified body certificate is visible there.

In Germany: DiGA (7)

Listed in the German directory of reimbursed digital health applications.

CE class I (self-declared) (3)

Self-declared by the maker, without review by a notified body. We list these apart.

Watchlist (7)

These products are presented as certified, by their maker or in earlier directories, but we found no matching record in the official register, or they are no longer supported by their maker. Some are registered and listed with the FDA as exempt devices, which is legal but is not a clearance.

The trap to avoid

A symptom checker in Europe is a medical device, but in the US most are not reviewed by the FDA. The same app can be certified in one market and unregulated in another. Check the certification for the country of your patient.

Questions

Are symptom checkers medical devices?

In the EU, yes. In our directory, Ada carries CE class IIa, and Infermedica and Omaolo carry CE class IIb.

Is there a certified app for irritable bowel syndrome?

In Germany, Cara Care für Reizdarm is listed as a DiGA. In the US, we could not confirm an FDA authorisation for Nerva: the record it was linked to belongs to a different IBS app, so Nerva is on our watchlist.

Can kidney function be tested at home with a phone?

Minuteful Kidney, a smartphone-based urine test, holds a 510(k) in our directory.

Are there certified apps for cancer patients?

In the EU, Noona, myoncare, Cureety TechCare and MoovCare Lung carry CE class IIa. In Germany, PINK! Coach and Untire are listed as DiGA.
